Unity and Teamwork Shine at UNESWA JMC Society Sports Day
By Ncamiso Xaba
Kwaluseni, – The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Journalism and Mass Communication
(JMC) Society recently hosted an exhilarating and highly successful Sports Day,
orchestrated by the Society's Executive Committee. Held as a strategic team-building initiative, the event aimed to foster unity,
collaboration, and a sense of camaraderie among students from all levels within
the program.
A Day Focused on Bonding and Collaboration
The JMC Society Executive recognized the importance of moving beyond the
lecture hall to build strong interpersonal relationships crucial for effective
communication professionals. The Sports Day provided the perfect relaxed and
competitive environment for this purpose. Students from Level 1 to Level 4 gathered, shedding their academic
stress to participate and cheer.
"Our main goal was to bring everyone together, especially the different levels, to create a stronger support system within the Society," said one of the Executive members. "Teamwork is paramount in our field, and what better way to practice it than through a friendly competition?"
The Main Event: Level 2
vs. Level 3 Football Showdown
The highlight of the day was an eagerly anticipated football match
pitting the Level 3 students against the Level 2 students. The atmosphere was electric, with
students cheering, whistles blowing, and the vibrant spirit of competition
filling the air.
The match, while friendly in nature, was fiercely contested, showcasing
some impressive skill and energy from both sides. However, the final score
reflected a dominant performance by the Level 2 squad.
- Level 2 Team: Secured a decisive victory
with 6 goals.
- Level 3 Team: Managed to net only 2 goal.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Level 3 team demonstrated commendable
sportsmanship and grit throughout the game. Ultimately, the emphasis was not on
the final result but on the shared experience and the spirit of collaboration
displayed on the field.
More Than Just a Game
Beyond the scoresheet, the event was a resounding success in achieving
its core objective. The interaction between students of varying seniority
levels facilitated mentorship and strengthened
the networking fabric of the department. Newer students
had the opportunity to socialise with their older peers in an informal setting,
which is invaluable for guidance and academic support.
Looking Ahead
The UNESWA JMC Society Executive deserves high praise for organizing an
event that was both fun and purposeful. The success of the Sports Day serves as
a strong foundation for future society activities, proving that a little
friendly competition can go a long way in building a cohesive and supportive
academic community.
