Q/A session with eMstar Teaniber on his latest release "No Love"

What inspired you to start making music and what do you hope to achieve or express through your songwriting?

I was inspired by the love my sisters had for music, so from me reading her lyric book, I started singing at the age 8 and only started writing at the age of 12. With my songwriting, I hope to achieve mental health wellbeing, emotional support and just basically make music Eswatini enjoyable like other international music.

What was the process like for creating this new track? Did you write it alone or collaborate with others?

I wrote this song last year and it only got to be recorded and produced this year in April. I wrote it alone with the assistance of my producer here and there.

What was the "eureka" moment when you discovered the melody, lyrics or beat that really made the song come together?

I mean I took the melody from some elements of the beat. So when I finally got to fill in the words I knew from there this is going to be a very nice song.

Without giving away too many details, what themes or ideas are you exploring with the lyrics on this track?

This song explores a successful young man life whereby he is courting this beautiful young lady who is in the slums believe that successful men drive Polo whereas there are men who drive more expensive cars and are more wealthy. It’s basically about the limitations this young lady has put upon herself in defining success.

How do you hope listeners will feel or what impact do you want it to have on them emotionally when they hear the song?

For this record it is to trigger the visual imagination while listening to the song which every visual imagery will be unique to every listener thus different stories being created.

Did any particular artistic influences or previous musicians inspire the overall sound or style of this release?

I’d like to say no, I just loved how the melodies came about which kind of matched the type of beat we had.

What has the response been like so far from fans? Are you happy with how they seem to be connecting with it?

I’m really happy, when it released at midnight I immediately got positive reviews from fans saying it was worth their wait and they are glad I gave them this record to go into the festive season with.

As an artist, what do you still feel you're growing into or have yet to express fully through your music?

The visual creativity I have, I’m still about to express myself visually too through the music videos which will bind up with the song itself and create a full idea of what the song may be about.

Without confirming specifics, what can you share about any other projects you're currently working on for the future?

All I can say is, next year God willing. We will deliver a lot of music making up for the time we didn’t release this year and I’m guaranteed the fans are in a for a treat.
